Rapid Response is the network set up by the United Steelworkers of America in 1996 in response to the attacks by the right wing in Congress.

Rapid Response is a network that recruits at least 4% of the membership of a local union to be Team members and then trains them on how to educate their co-workers. It then allows our members an opportunity to make their voice heard through various avenues including a toll free phone call, e-mail or a personal letter to a legislator.

The communication with local unions and retirees is handled by e-mail and faxes to a local coordinator, who then disperses copies to the Team members. Since Rapid Response is an educational tool, not all communications ask for a response. Some communications designated as InfoAlerts simply share some key information with our members. If an action is being undertaken, the communication will be entitled an Action Call.
