Early minutes books show us as A.F. of L. Local 24832. The first entry is a reference to a party in 1953. The regular meeting canceled. There is a meeting minutes in 1956 that states part of the contract and a no vote to strike has to do with the company recognizing a union.
We then became the U.S.W.A. Local 5429. The Certificate of Charter of Affiliation hangs in the Union office today. Dated the 9th of August 1956. Signed by the following people President Charles Brown, Vice-President Kenneth Bennett, Recording Secretary Dorothy Wallace, Financial Secretary Leo Dickerson, Treasure Doris Evans, Guide Bernard Reid, Inside Guard Robert Caster, Outside Guard Raymond Kopec, International President David J Mc Donald, and International secretary J W Abel.
The following people have served as Union President over the years Paul Covert, Mert Dunshie, Charles Brown, Frank Sherwood, Tom Morgan, (in office one month) Doris Evens, Jim Carlson (in office 3 months), Richard Keller, John Dray, Larry Cassidy, and Rogers Mesler.
We have had two strikes one in 1972 and one in 1975.
